We’re excited to announce the launch of a brand new electronic prescribing system (EPS) simulator designed for students; the EPS Simulator.
Developed in collaboration with academic colleagues from the University of Manchester, this new digital tool is designed to support institutions in delivering more targeted, practical, and effective prescribing education, equipping students with the skills they need to prescribe safely and confidently in real-world clinical environments.
A Virtual Learning Environment That Reflects Real Clinical Practice
The EPS Simulator provides students with the opportunity to practise prescribing in a formative, virtual environment that mimics the appearance and functionality of a real electronic prescribing system. With patient information, observations, and investigations, all displayed in a clear clinical format, students can immerse themselves in realistic scenarios that build prescribing confidence and competence.
Key Features for Institutions
Institutions using the EPS Simulator will benefit from a range of powerful features designed to enhance prescribing education and align with curriculum needs:
- Custom Case Builder
Create your own prescribing case scenarios to match the expected knowledge, skills and level of your students. - Realistic Clinical Interface
Reflects the layout and flow of a real EPS, providing students with experience using systems
found in practice. - Support for Complex Prescribing Competencies
Address advanced areas like polypharmacy, de-prescribing, and medicines optimisation in a safe, controlled environment. - Flexible Integration
Use the tool alongside your existing curriculum, OSCE preparation, or clinical teaching sessions. - Formative Feedback Opportunities
Encourage safe learning through trial, error and reflection without high-stakes consequences. - Remote First Approach
Fully digital and accessible online, ideal for both in-person and distance learning programmes.
Why It Matters
Prescribing remains one of the most high-risk activities in clinical practice, and yet, it’s often one of the most difficult to teach in a way that reflects real-world systems and pressures. Our EPS Simulator addresses this gap, providing a safe space where students can apply their clinical reasoning and prescribing decisions in an environment that reflects what they’ll experience in practice.
For educators, it’s an opportunity to better support learners by providing a high-fidelity prescribing interface with realistic and complex scenarios, addressing areas of prescribing that require deeper understanding and greater confidence.
Supporting Our Mission Through Innovation
The launch of the EPS Simulator is another step in our mission to improve prescribing education and medication safety through innovative digital tools. As our Head of Commercial Operations, Peter Wright, explains,
“We’re pleased to continue fulfilling our mission by supporting schools and students through innovative digital tools like the EPS Simulator. With the complexity of prescribing practice, it’s essential that students can learn in a safe environment that reflects real clinical systems.”
